Preschool Registration in Singapore: Timeline and Steps
You no longer pre-register interest with ECDA. Search licensed centres on LifeSG, contact them directly to enrol, then complete ECDA's Form 1 in LifeSG to apply for subsidies. MOE Kindergartens run a separate annual registration exercise in March.
Registering for preschool in Singapore is simpler than it used to be, but the process has changed. ECDA retired the old step of indicating interest and waiting for a centre to call you. Today you search for licensed centres yourself, approach them directly, and only deal with ECDA when you apply for subsidies. Here is the current flow and when to start.
How registration works now
ECDA’s preschool search sits inside LifeSG — the government services app and website. Open the Services tab and choose Search for a preschool to find licensed infant care, childcare and kindergarten centres near your home, workplace or a caregiver’s home, with each centre’s contact details on the result page.
Under the current model you engage centres directly for enrolment rather than registering interest with ECDA and waiting. This gives more certainty: you can ask a centre about vacancies and secure a place as soon as one is available.
When to start looking
Childcare and infant care run on rolling admissions — there is no single national window. Because places turn over through the year, timing depends on the centre:
- Infant care (2–18 months) fills earliest. Popular centres in mature estates keep the longest waitlists, so start searching during pregnancy if you will need a place.
- Childcare (18 months to below 7) is less extreme, but well-regarded centres still queue, especially for January and July intakes.
- A child already enrolled usually has priority to progress to the next level in the same centre — ask about internal progression before re-applying elsewhere.
MOE Kindergartens are the exception: they run one annual registration exercise (see below), not rolling admissions.
Enquiring with centres on LifeSG
After you shortlist centres, send an enquiry or contact them through the LifeSG search result. A centre should acknowledge your enquiry within 3 to 5 working days and advise you on enrolment if a vacancy exists. If you do not hear back within two weeks, follow up with the centre directly.

Key response times once you enquire and enrol.
Documents and details you will need
ECDA does not set one universal document checklist — each centre runs its own enrolment paperwork, so confirm with the centre what it needs (centres commonly ask for your child’s birth certificate and immunisation record).
The official ECDA step is Form 1 in LifeSG. Once you enrol, the centre triggers Form 1 and the main applicant (usually the mother, or the single father in divorce, separation or widowhood cases) receives an email to complete it. Form 1 captures your household, parents’ income and employment details and is how you apply for subsidies. For employed and self-employed applicants, ECDA retrieves income data from the CPF Board and/or IRAS, so you do not upload payslips.
The Form 1 deadline
Form 1 has a firm deadline. You must complete it within 14 calendar days of the LifeSG email. Miss it and the application is withdrawn — you then have to ask the centre to re-trigger a new form, which can delay your subsidies.
Subsidies themselves depend on your child’s citizenship, the programme and your household means. All Singapore Citizen children in an ECDA-licensed infant or childcare centre get a Basic Subsidy; working applicants (at least 56 hours a month) receive more, and lower-income families get an additional means-tested amount. Non-working applicants may apply for time-limited Special Approval. The full tiers are in our childcare subsidy explainer.
MOE Kindergarten: a separate timeline
If you are after a place in an MOE Kindergarten (MK), the process is different. MKs hold a single annual registration exercise — the 2027 K1 intake registered online from 23 to 31 March 2026 — and oversubscribed MKs ballot by citizenship and distance from home rather than first-come. You apply to one MK per exercise, and outcomes come about two months later. Full details are in our MOE Kindergarten guide.

The two routes work differently.
