Pregnancy and Delivery Costs in Singapore

Short answer

What you pay to give birth in Singapore depends mostly on where you deliver — cheapest in a subsidised public ward, most in a private hospital. The MediSave Maternity Package lets both parents pay much of the bill from MediSave, and every citizen newborn gets a S$5,000 MediSave grant.

What giving birth costs in Singapore depends mostly on where you deliver — a subsidised public ward, a private room in a public hospital, or a private hospital. The good news is that the MediSave Maternity Package and the MediSave Grant for Newborns take a big bite out of the bill. Figures below are from the CPF Board and MOH, as of October 2026.

Roughly what a delivery costs

Actual bills vary by hospital, ward and whether the delivery is normal or caesarean. As a rough guide, from MOH’s published bill data:

Typical delivery cost by setting: Subsidised public ward ~S$1,300-2,600; Private room, public hosp ~S$6,000; Private hospital ~S$10,000-16,000; Newborn MediSave grant S$5,000

Caesarean costs more than a normal delivery in every setting.

Where you deliver Typical cost (Singapore Citizen)
Subsidised public ward (C or B2) ~S$1,300–S$2,600
Private room in a public hospital (A) ~S$6,000
Private hospital ~S$10,000–S$16,000

A caesarean costs more than a normal delivery in every setting. For your own estimate, use MOH’s hospital bill sizes tool and the hospital’s own maternity package prices.

The MediSave Maternity Package (MMP)

The MMP lets you pay pregnancy and delivery bills from your own and your spouse’s MediSave, at a MediSave-accredited hospital, up to these limits (CPF Board):

MediSave delivery withdrawal limits

Expense MediSave limit
Pre-delivery care (scans, tests, consults) up to S$900
Vaginal delivery (normal) S$1,120
Vaginal delivery (assisted) S$1,390
Caesarean section S$2,380
Complicated caesarean up to S$2,770
Daily ward charges, first 2 days up to S$1,130/day
Daily ward charges, 3rd day on up to S$400/day

Two things make a real difference: the limits are the same whether you deliver in a public or private hospital, and both parents’ MediSave can be used, which effectively doubles the delivery withdrawal if you need it. You can only claim the actual bill or the limit, whichever is lower.

The S$5,000 MediSave Grant for Newborns

Every Singapore Citizen baby born on or after 1 April 2025 receives a S$5,000 MediSave Grant, credited to the child’s own MediSave account at birth registration — no application needed. It helps pay for the child’s MediShield Life premiums and future healthcare.

A note on insurance

MediShield Life does not cover a routine delivery or a caesarean operation, so do not count on it for the birth itself. It does automatically cover your newborn from birth. Private-hospital maternity cover usually needs separate insurance arranged before pregnancy.

Support that offsets the cost

Beyond MediSave, subsidised public-ward patients can receive means-tested government subsidies on the bill, and the Baby Bonus Cash Gift and CDA add well over ten thousand dollars of support for the child’s early years. After subsidies and MediSave, many Singaporean couples delivering in a subsidised ward have close to zero out-of-pocket cost.
